How to Create Tiered Pricing

OnTime offers an intuitive way to calculate prices based on tiers. This can be useful when you need to create charges that only apply within a specific tier (or bracket) of a field's value, such as weight, quantity, or distance. For example, charging $1.50 per mile/kilometer between 0 and 10 miles/kilometers and $2.00 per mile/kilometer between 11 and 20 miles/kilometers.
To create a tiered (or bracketed) charge, follow these steps:
  1. Open Prices view of OnTime Management Suite.
  2. Ensure that the Price Modifiers view is selected.
  3. Click the button labeled New Price Modifier from the top left.
  4. Enter a Name to identify the price modifier.
  5. Set the Calculation type to one of the available tiered overage amounts. Common choices are Tiered Fixed Overage Amount and Tiered Incremental Overage Amount.
  6. Choose a Field that will be monitored for the tiers (or brackets).
  7. Click the button labeled Configure Tiers.... A window will appear with a grid. Each row in the grid represents a tier (or bracket). Create as many rows as are needed to describe each tier.
  8. Set the Start value to correspond with the starting point of the tier based on the Field selected in step 6.
  9. Set the End value to correspond with the starting point of the tier based on the Field selected in step 6.
  10. Set the Amount to a value that should be charged when a Field's value falls within the tier.
  11. By default, the Start value will always be inclusive (greater than or equal to), and the End value will be exclusive (less than). Change this behavior on any portion of the range by clicking the >=, >, <=, < symbols on the left side of the Start or End field.
  12. Repeat steps 8 through 11 for each tier (or bracket) required.
  13. Set the box labeled Default amount if there are no matching tiers to a value that can be used if the Field's value does not fall within any of the defined tiers.
  14. Click Save to save the tiers defined.
  15. Click Save to save the price modifier.
